Story

Gameplay
In Batman: Arkham Asylum players strap on the gadget-heavy utility belt of the Caped Crusader. Gameplay here is a combination of both the knuckle crunching rush of hand to hand combat as you take on the hordes of thugs that infest Arkham Asylum, and stealth gameplay in which you must dispatch individuals from the shadows. Players can expect an engrossing single player campaign in which Batman continually moves forward to face the henchmen, bosses and traps that The Joker has set for him. With regards to opponents, in addition to The Joker who you will hear more than you see, the dark walls of Arkham also hold familiar villains from the the Batman criminal universe including Harley Quinn, Victor Zsasz and Killer Croc, that you will have to deal with, but don't expect a one-dimensional experience. As players progress from environment to environment within Arkham they will have to use varying combinations of muscle, detective skills, gadgetry and a certain degree of light RPG-like leveling of Batman's skills, arsenal and physical characteristics to survive and discover what The Joker's underlying scheme is.

In addition to the story-driven single player campaign Arkham Asylum also contains various additional play modes. These include an arcade styled combat mode where players accumulate points by engaging hordes of thugs in a hand to hand slugfest across a series of maps, in which Batman's physical strength and agility play a major role. The key here is to chain together as many attacks as possible due to the fact that with each successful combo players increase the point multiplier associated with their actions. The game also features a time-based stealth mode where players must hone their ability to strike silently from the shadows. This gameplay, referred to as 'Invisible Predator' utilizes the Dark Knight's skill with gadgets like the grapple tool, batarang and explosives. These allow for vertical/horizontal mobility, the ability to quickly strike from above and at a distance and to take out enemies and create distractions, even through walls. But remember that Batman works solo and is not superhuman. Your enemies will congregate around trouble areas and work as a team against you, so you must be silent, plan your attacks wisely, strike quickly and discover the value of encouraging fear within enemies.

(6) Might have to pause mid-quest to do something else (wash dishes, go for a walk, take out the garbage, answer the phone...) and come back later (Guild Wars, I find, is much more "forgiving" for players who have lives, where World of Warcraft is not, since Guild Wars more or less "holds your place" if you are called away temporarily to do other things)

Nightfall adds new story content, new professions (the paragon [kind of a spear-wielding paladin] and the dervish [a whirling, spinning slice and dicer]), a bucketload of nifty innovations, and ABOVE ALL, HEROES. The heroes are customizable, controllable henchmen that add a whole new dimension to the game--not only to Nightfall but to the two previous editions of Guild Wars as well.

I have to say I am pleased and greatly impressed with Nightfall. I took a character or two over from the previous campaigns and nabbed a few heroes and now those characters are back playing through the Prophecies and Factions missions and quests with their Heroes. I love this!

NCSoft has, in effect, upped the ante and enriched and deepened the playability of ALL of their games at once, although I hasten to add that you must purchase Nightfall to access the new regions (i.e., the beautiful, African-themed Elona), the new missions, and--best of all--the new Heroes.

I have nearly completed the Nightfall campaign (with a dervish and a monk), and all I can say is that it's been great fun. The Guild Wars series just continues to get better, richer, deeper, and more fun to play. Best of all, unlike that other online game behemoth (World of Warcraft), Guild Wars is very casual/solo player friendly, both time-wise and group-wise. You can complete virtually any quest or mission in this campaign ALONE (with henchmen), if that is your playing style. It is difficult to do (I *like* difficult, heh), but it can be done. I know this because that is how I have played all three Guild Wars campaigns.

People familiar with the first two campaigns and looking for something "totally new" will not find it here but that, in my opinion, is a good thing. Nightfall builds upon and enhances the successful gameplay formula established by Prophecies and Factions, retaining all of the aspects of previous campaigns that players appreciated and yet incorporating new bells and whistles that make the basic story-centered structure better and even more enjoyable.

Whether performing a wide variety of quests and killing countless hosts of monsters and enemies is "grinding" and "boring" or "great fun" really depends on your perspective, I suppose. I think it's great fun. I just completed a quest in this campaign yesterday wherein you must help a herdsman get his cows to safe pasture past mobs of brigands. I found the assignment difficult, creative, and funny all at the same time, with the herd mooing and stampeding every which way and the brigands attacking in waves and cows dying all along the way. Now, that's entertainment! And that was but one quest among ... zillions.

In short, Nightfall is a solid and enjoyable addition to the fine Guild Wars series. I highly recommend it.

Lineage II is a beautiful and engrossing game. It's been vastly under rated in the media, but is in fact one of the most popular online games in the world, ranking only 2nd to World of Warcraft. Lineage II's community is a bit more grown up and extremely loyal and friendly. What drew me to the game was the wonderful art style and the more I explored the better the environment and character graphics became. Gameplay is very solid, though at a slower pace compared to other games in this genre, but it's hopelessly addictive.
This epic collection is not only cheaper than the original Lineage II, but comes with all of the expansion packs that normally must be downloaded, plus 45 days of free play. Also, expansions come about twice a year, changing the look and feel of the game and are entirely free. If you like your MMORPGs with huge, unbounded worlds (No invisible walls or load times), appealing asian-style design and solid, well-aged gameplay, I highly reccomend this game.

City Life 2008 Edition provides total freedom of construction. It´s up to you to manage this city efficiently - you are the architect, mayor, and business mogul. I have been a Maxis/EA SimCity player for years. However, with their introduction of SimCity Societies and the new style of play I opted to give another game a try: City Life 2008. I'm glad I did. The graphics in the 2008 edition are very good with special features like reflections in the water that make it a little more special than the SimCity games. I found the game itself to be very quick. Keep in my mind I have a very good machine (Dell Precision M4300 with 4GB RAM), but I suspect it will perform well on most machines. The one area where the game lags is during the installation and loading of the game. The installation seemed like it took forever! It also takes a minute or two to load each time you play it. Maybe the slow load time is where the game is loading into memory, etc and makes the game play more smooth and quick. I loved the ability to zoom in to the street level and look around at the city. That's awesome! The zooming in and out is much quicker than any of the SimCity games. The ability to build roads and other items in a "freestyle" mode is also an excellent feature. Initially, the number of buildings seems adequate, but after playing the game for awhile you might wish it had more. The "society" part of this game can be a learning curve for some users. You do have to build the city with all citizens/cultures in mind (blue collar, rich, etc). However, after a few tries you easily get the hang of it. I know SimCity Societies has the same concept, but I felt limited in the SimCity Societies game play. City Life 2008 offers more of the traditional "city building" that I am used to. It has little depth, almost no problem solving, and nothing that can't be fixed by spending money and replacing buildings. Money just rolls in once your city reaches critical mass, and that's not hard to do either. If you want a challenge in this game, you'll have to create it yourself by deliberately throwing in crime, pollution, and situations that provoke sims in to going 'rogue'. But the graphics are awesome. The city's roads and buildings take on the character of certain archetypes (cyberpunk, authoritarian, romantic, fun, contemplative, etc) as you push certain societal energies. This makes playing the game and watching the evolution of your city a lot of fun. However, the energies themselves affect only buildings. Sims are sims in this game and never act any different depending on what you do. They get happy and unhappy just the same. For all it's talk about creating your own society, this game doesn't seem to realize that the society is the people. Since none of what you do affects the people much at all the game comes across as rather hollow and superficial. If you'd like to create a city from a simple artistic point of view, this game is for you. You've got total control over which building goes where. Street placement is limited to 90 degree angles though and there's only 2 kinds of streets (the paved one does change according to what energies your city uses, and these different types have already been unlocked by at least one mod). If you are looking to indulge your creativity in building a beautiful city with an interesting layout, this game will let you do just that. But wait for another patch. This thing crashes frequently. I can get up to 2hrs of playtime before it crashes depending on how large my city is and how much I do. Often it crashes after 30 min on small to medium cities. I haven't gotten anywhere close to filling up the map. The EA SCS boards are filled with people who have similar, if not worse problems. (There is an autosave feature. I have it set to save every 5 min. But really, who wants to play a game that continually crashes?) SCS is a game that's more geared towards the casual gaming market. That's ok (except for the hardcore SimCity4 fans who were looking for an update on a classic). I could get into SCS and lose myself for several hours if it was stable and would run for several hours reliably. I'd give it a 3/5 on the fun scale. But I have to take off 2 stars for instability. I have Vista 64 and my computer specs far exceed the minimum. There's no excuse, in my opinion, for releasing a game that obviously wasn't beta tested enough. I have to assume EA was trying to cash in on the Christmas buying season since they well knew they weren't going to get many SimCity fans sold on SCS.

This game is very much like GTA: San Andreas, just not as fun or dynamic.

You CANNOT skip the intro screen or cutscenes even if you beat the game. EVERY DARN TIME the game is started, you have to basically look at a commercial for Paramount and The Godfather. UGGGGH!!!! Every poorly acted cutscene in the movie has to be viewed. You cannot skip them. This really sucks but I have found Electronic Arts always forces that kind of [...]on you. I would write to them and complain! Make a statement!

The graphics are good...not great...but good. This game also runs and plays well on slower machines. I ran it on a AMD 2500+ Win XP machine with an ATI 9500 Pro card and 1 gig of ram. It played quite nicely!!!

What I hated the most was the music. It is forced on you. NO DISABLE METHOD!!!(again, another Electronic Arts stunt...way too much ego at that company)Every time you jump in a car to drive or pull out your weapon for a fight music kicks in! This is especially annoying when you are trying to listen to enemy footsteps. So, you have to hide your weapon then take it out again and the music will go away for a short while. UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHH!

You spend your time doing repetitive things...taking over and extorting business to raise your stats and earn money. Truthfully though, the only benefit is to buy more powerful weapons. Once done, you have no need for any money!!!

At the end you can become the DON of NYC. You get a large cut of the profits(worthless at this point) and you get unlimited ammo (worthless again because the game is over!!! UGHHHH!)
What I really enjoyed was the old school feel of the 1930's era gangster and you can really get into the nitty gritty of customizing your character. You can change eveyr facial feature, pick his clothes, eye color, hair style, weight and physical build.
